TWO politicians have issued a fresh call for the restoration of the Stormont Executive to implement plans to make school uniforms more affordable for families ahead of the start of the new term.

South Down MLA Cathy Mason and Slieve Croob councillor Róisín Howell have unveiled details of a uniform swap tomorrow night at the Castlewellan Community Centre between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

Mrs Mason has thanked everyone who has donated uniforms and is encouraging others to come along tomorrow night to the community centre for the swap shop.

She said “Sinn Féin has a plan to make school uniforms affordable and cut costs for families when back to school times comes around.

“We need an Executive up and running now so that we can start implement a plan to cut the cost of school uniforms and alleviate this financial burden on families.”

Cllr Howell said that over the past few weeks she has been speaking with numerous parents who have real concerns about how they will cover the cost of school uniforms this summer.

She added: “Workers and families are already struggling with the rising cost of living and paying out huge amounts for school uniforms is going to add more pressure.”
