Relish enjoy homecoming with visit to Downpatrick college campus

14 March 2013

DOWNPATRICK band Relish performed at the South Eastern Regional College’s’ Downpatrick campus recently — something of a homecoming for the band.

Ken and Carl Papenfus and Darren Campbell delighted students with a melody of songs during their performance.

Ken and Carl studied at the old Downpatrick campus which was bulldozed to make way for a multi-million pound ultra-modern building, while Darren also has links with the South Eastern Regional College. He studied art at the old Newcastle campus.

Joining the trio during their live performance was former tutor Bruce McClements, who gave a fabulous rendition of some well-loved tunes. The concert was held in conjunction with the College’s radio station, Down Community Radio, which broadcasts live on FM105.

Relish are proud of their Downpatrick roots and have sold platinum albums and won prestigious music awards. The boys have also written global hits, graced some of the world’s most famous stages and their A-list fans include Paul Weller, Brian May, U2 and many more.

The local gig was the band’s first for many years and Downpatrick campus manager, Paul Walsh, was delighted to invite the boys to perform.
