NEWCASTLE man Jimmy Smyth has published his first children’s picture book The Leprechaun.

This is Jimmy’s first in a series of children’s books.

The book has a local setting and is a compelling story about a boy and his two Jack Russell terriers, who rescue a Leprechaun from drowning.

“The illustrations in the book are excellent and the book would make a lovely gift,” said Jimmy.

“I was born in the Kingdom of Mourne and I have been captivated by its magic and beauty. As a child I was told stories about the fairies and other magical folk and my

constant companions were the characters from the Dandy and Beano, so I was only ever a heartbeat away from an exciting adventure. The stories, history and beauty of the Kingdom of Mourne will remain in my heart forever.”

Jimmy added that he believes reading and storytelling are healthier alternatives to television and computer games for children.

The book is available from tourist information centres, Woodlawn Garden Centre, Carryduff and book and craft shops. Alternatively send an e-mail to: jjsmyth1@hotmail.com. Postage is free.
