Down Community JuJitsu Clubs students receive new gradings

3 July 2024

DOWN Community JuJitsu Clubs held its annual summer grading recently in Ballynahinch Community Centre.

Head coach, Master Gerald McAlister, 7th Dan senior examiner, and his team of examiners put all the students through their paces, covering their syllabus and revision of past syllabus.

Students from the Ballynahinch, Crossgar, Newcastle, Drumaness and Saintfield clubs who met the grading criteria attended their grading.

All of the students worked hard during their grading to achieve their new certificates and new belts.

Down Community JuJitsu Clubs are now closed for the summer break and will reopen in August.

All of the clubs will be recruiting new members, including for the Knee High Samurais, junior and senior JuJitsu classes.

The Knee High Samurai class, which is aimed at three to five year-olds, will be moving to the Dan Rice Hall in Drumaness in September due to the Ballynahinch centre closing for a major refurbishment.

If you are looking to try something new, want to learn new skills, improve your fitness or just get moving your body for better agility, the clubs currently work with students from three to 68 years-old.

The clubs work to help each individual to achieve their own goals within jujitsu and self defence.

Watch out for the self defence program developed by Master Gerald McAlister, who has trained in personal protection and security in Ireland and Hungary.

These programs are designed to help to empower women and give them self defence skills. The course will be organised for later this year. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
