Dancers enjoy annual dance camp

Dancers enjoy annual dance camp

14 August 2024

THE Owens Academy of Irish Dance recently held its second annual summer dance Camp in Downpatrick.

Held in Down Parochial Hall, 30 dancers enjoyed three days of Irish dancing, fitness, arts and crafts, team building, goal setting, games and much more.

Each day the dancers enjoyed activities based around a theme such as ‘Team Work Makes the Dream Work’, ‘Be Yourself’ and ‘Fun and Games’.

Dancers embarked on perfecting their Irish dance basics ad competition dances, as well as fun activities such as bracelet and keyring making.

The participants worked on their fitness with Neil Morrison, from NM Sports, Belfast, who came to provide the dancers with strength and conditioning training as part of the ‘Fun and Games’ theme day.

The dancers were treated to face painting as part of ‘Be Yourself’ theme day, with people from Colour Me Cute attending to provide wonderful face paints.

On the last day, the dancers were treated to ice cream and slush puppies and awarded certificates of completion to mark their successful completion of the dance camp.

One parent of one of the dancers said how much fun and enjoyment her daughter Farrah had at the camp.

“Farrah loved the dance camp,” the parent said. “She just loves to dance at the Owens Academy and the jam packed three days of dancing, along with all the added extras, made the experience so enjoyable and memorable for her.”

The Owens Academy runs dancing classes weekly in Downpatrick and Saintfield aged P1 and upwards.
