Councillor calls for resurfacing in Downpatrick

4 January 2012

DOWNPATRICK councillor Colin McGrath has welcomed the resurfacing of the Kilbride Road and parts of Ardmore Avenue in the town.

He said residents in both areas have had to wait “far too long” for the much-needed work to be completed.

“Residents’ lives were made a misery and worse still there was damage being done to their vehicles,” he revealed.

Councillor McGrath said the resurfacing work was promised to residents when major work was undertaken at the new St. Patrick’s Grammar School. He explained the work was expected much sooner than when it was eventually completed.

Councillor McGrath has also suggested much work still needs to be done in the Downpatrick area to ensure better road traffic management.

He said this ranges from the need to find a solution to problems in Edward Street and gritting the Struell Road during inclement weather.

Councillor McGrath also wants Down Council to ensure that next year is the one roads issues are dealt with once and for all, adding: “People expect their local authority to be doing this and we must therefore make it our priority.”
