Corner Stone Fest in Annacloy

17 July 2024

A KILLYLEAGH singer is hosting his third Corner Stone Fest next month.

Conal Montgomery will be taking his event outdoors to The Sunflower Cottage in Annacloy, where there will be 10 musical acts over nine hours on on Saturday, August 10.

The event will run from 12pm to 9pm, with all proceeds going to the local charity Life Change Changes Lives in Downpatrick.

Conal Montgomery and Friends will be opening the event, followed by the Barry Shielfs band, Every March, and then First Ted on The Moon, who have both released albums this year.

Conal and his band, Black Dog Moon will also be closing out the event.

Speaking to Down About Down Podcast host, Chris Scott, Conal spoke about Black Dog Moon’s new upcoming rock album, which is due to release this Friday at The Pavilion Bar, at Belfast’s Ormeau Road.

Conal dreamt of forming his own rock group which would eventually record its own material.

That dream has now come true and the guys are now taking the local rock scene by storm.

There’s a tornado going on and it’s blowing us in the right direction,” said Conal.

Their new album contains everything from heavy rock to a Celtic bluesy rock number titled River Maiden.

This song was penned by Conal after a memorable experience in Dublin whilst attending a Who concert in June 2015. Conal had accidentally fallen into the River Liffey and nearly died.

“I fell in between the pontoon and a wall off a ladder,” he told Chris.

“I had a couple of bangs before I hit the water. I was in the water and I remember looking up and I could see a light.”

Thankfully a friend pulled hm out before tragedy unfolded.

Conal goes onto explain that this gave him the idea for the song which encapsulates a mermaid rescuing him and bringing him to the surface.

In part two of the podcast, Chris spoke to Conal about the Corner Stone Fest.

The concert will also include performances from, Short Circuit, Rikki Jordan Band, Take it Easy, Charlie Hanlon, The Thing is and Zac Mac.

Tickets priced £30 and are now on sale.
