Winners of Maureen Donnelly memorial writing competition

THE winners of the Maureen Donnelly Memorial Writing Competition have been announced.

The competition is organised annually by the Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick.

Mrs Donnelly was a was a long-standing board member of the Saint Patrick Centre who dedicated much of her life to her passion for writing.

Three students from Assumption Grammar School in Ballynahinch won the top and second prizes in their categories.

Year 8 student Eloise Downey scooped the top prize for poetry in the Key Stage 3 category.

Isla Delahunt and Izzie Molloy were first and second respectively in the Key Stage 4 category for prose writing, exploring faith, culture and diversity in relation to St Patrick.

Reuben Smyth, a Year 9 student from Down High School, won second place in the poetry category.

The students, their teachers and parents were invited to a special reception at the St Patrick’s Centre to celebrate their achievements and receive their prizes.
