CONFIRMATION that work to upgrade the Shore Road in Kilclief will continue has been welcomed by local politicians.
Strangford MLA Nick Mathison and Downpatrick councillor Cadogan Enright have been informed by the Department for Infrastructure that phase one of the project which currently ends near 40 Shore Road, has been completed.
Officials have also confirmed that the budget for phase two has been secured.
“The continuation of upgrade works on the Shore Road is an issue that many residents have raised with us,” said Mr Mathison.
“Phase one was a significant improvement and it’s great news that the department has secured funding for phase two. I will continue working with my colleagues to ensure we get a clear schedule from the department for when these essential works will begin and be completed.”
Cllr Enright said while the first phase of the Shore Road upgrades was very well-received, a full upgrade is necessary to make the road safe for all users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
He added: “I’m pleased to see progress on the next phase and will keep pressing the DfI to ensure the project continues through to Kilclief Castle which is essential for the local community.”
