A TEMPORARY banking hub is to open in Newcastle.
It will be based at a business unit in Railway Street and opens on November 13 ahead of the opening of a permanent hub in the resort following a request from the Consumer Council.
There are no main banks in Newcastle.
Mournes councillor, Willie Clarke, said the temporary hub will provide all the same facilities as the permanent location, ensuring local people have uninterrupted access to essential banking services.
He has confirmed the temporary banking hub will be open five days a week, from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and will remain available until the new permanent hub opens.
“The hub offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions,” Cllr Clarke confirmed.
“Additionally, the hub will feature a community banker service, allowing customers to discuss more complicated issues with their own bank on the day their bank is in the hub.”
Cllr Clarke said that alongside the community banker, there will be a banking hub operator who will provide counter services for all the basic banking needs of the community.
“This new facility is a significant development for Newcastle, ensuring residents have access to vital banking services in the heart of the town,” he said
“I’d encourage everyone to make use of this excellent resource and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our community.”
The community banker will be available for Santander customers on Tuesday, Ulster Bank on Wednesday, Danske customers on Thursday and Barclays on Friday.
No community banker has yet been assigned to Monday.
