CELEBRITY chef Catherine Fulviowill be sampling the scenic and culinary delights of Down and Armagh next week.

Catherine Fulvio’s St Patrick’s Way will be broadcast on RTE 1 next Thursday and Friday ahead of St Patrick’s Day on Monday, March 17.

The two-part series sees the TV cook explore local attractions such as the Mournes, Saul and St Patrick’s Grave in Downpatrick.

Catherine journeys through unspoilt natural scenery on an exploration of history, spirituality and the unique culture, while experiencing world class local food and drink along the way.

While the first episode highlights Armagh’s rich history, the second episode takes viewers through Tollymore Forest Park and Newcastle in the back of the Mourne Mountains, where Catherine meets chef Paul Cunningham for some foraging.

This is followed by a dramatic horseback beach ride along Tyrella beach to meet St Patrick’s Way guides Elaine Kelly and Martina Purdy, who bring her on a spiritual journey to St Patrick’s resting place at Down Cathedral in Downpatrick.

Catherine concludes her journey in the surroundings of Finnebrogue Estate where she learns the art of bushcraft before settling down in a tipi for her final night’s sleep.

Catherine said working with Discover Northern Ireland on the programme was “an absolute delight”.

She remarked: “During this two-part series I had the privilege of exploring the breathtaking scenery of Armagh and Down while delving into the rich history of St Patrick along the pilgrim way.

“Not surprisingly, I also got to indulge in some of the most delectable local cuisine while meeting interesting characters along the route who were able to show me some of the best of Northern Ireland.

“It was a truly memorable experience that ignited my passion for Irish heritage and am delighted to share some incredible experiences with viewers that can be found right here on our doorstep,” she added.

Fiona Cunningham, from Tourism NI, said that with her interest and experience in food and hospitality, Catherine was the “perfect candidate” to partner with to explore and showcase this part of Northern Ireland.

“She uncovers the rich and diverse range of great accommodation, restaurants, attractions and experiences on offer – this is the very reason why Northern Ireland continues to attract record numbers of visitors,” she said.

“We look forward to celebrating 10 years of St. Patrick’s Way: Pilgrim Walk and welcoming even more visitors to this unique area.”

Catherine Fulvio’s St Patrick’s Way will air on RTE 1 on Thursday, March 13, and Friday, March 14, at 8pm.
