LOCAL horse riders recently came up trumps at the Eventing Ireland Northern Region Competition which recently took place at the Tullymurry Equestrian Centre.

Amongst 170 riders from all over Ireland, there were six local winners out of the 13 classes.

The competition combined all three disciplines of dressage, showjumping and cross country over one day.

The winners were as follows: Jonathan Steel from Crossgar, who was riding Kinetic Blue in the EI 110 open; Downpatrick’s Christina Turley, who was riding Ann’s Bob in the EI 100 Amateur; Kaiti McCann from Drumaroad, who was riding Boyher Cookies n Creme in the EI 100; Sam Hamilton from Ballynoe, who was riding Cahanagh Black Flyer in the EI 100 P; Jennifer Gilchrist from Ballee, who was riding Lackaghmore Vandango in the EI 90 P; Siofra Mason from Ballykinlar, who was riding Consequential in the EI 80 Q.

A spokesperson from the Tullymurry Equestrian centre said: “This is a reflection of the historical culture of horsemanship in the County Down area.

“Many thanks to all the judges, scribes, scorers and call ups, and also to the many dedicated volunteers who despite the damp conditions, continued to smile.”
