Senior designer Wendy with new logo for Shimna Integrated College

SHIMNA Integrated College has unveiled the design of a new logo ahead of the move into a new state-of-the art school building later this year.

The Newcastle school has engaged parent Wendy Williamson, whose son will be joining Shimna in September.

Wendy is the senior designer at Be-Studios Design and has already done similar work with All Children’s Integrated Primary School in Newcastle.

Since January, she has worked on a concept inspired by the core elements of life at Shimna, some of which have featured in the College’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Principal Steve Pagan said: “We’re very grateful to Wendy for the time and care she has invested in this assignment.

“She has managed to modernise the logo while also paying respect to our heritage. As was the case with the design of the original logo 30 years ago, it is fitting this project has been led by a parent.”

Mr Pagan continued: “The new logo reflects our integrated identity. The S in the logo is a ‘fingerprint’ which recognises the individuality of every student. The curved lines represent the harmony that comes from the college’s motto, ‘learning from each other’.

“The range of colours reflects the different faiths, cultures and the breadth of our curriculum, as well as drawing inspiration from the splendour of our natural environment. The colour palette ties in with the architect’s original plans for the new building.”

Mr Pagan added that the school will take a phased approach to changing its uniform, with the original crest remaining in place for the coming year.
