THREE Downpatrick schools have been honoured by a province-wide charity.
AWARE NI, Northern Ireland’s leading charity depression, recently hosted its third biennial Investors in Mental Health Awards, which recognise schools, workplaces and community organisations that foster open dialogue and proactive mental health support.
The event, held at the Europa Hotel in Belfast and hosted by well-known weather presenter Barra Best, saw Blackwater Integrated College, Knockevin Special School and Our Lady and St Patrick Primary School recognised for their dedication to promoting positive mental health.
These schools were praised for integrating AWARE NI’s mental health programmes into their curriculum and also for maintaining a consistent focus on mental health through initiatives like signposting, appointing mental health champions and creating dedicated mental health spaces.
Karen Collins, CEO of AWARE NI, said: “These initiatives, which reflect the schools’ commitment to creating a supportive environment prioritising student mental health through a strong pastoral care system, are truly inspiring and offer hope for a brighter future.
“The Investors in Mental Health Awards are our way of recognising the vital work carried out to support mental health in Northern Ireland.
“With one in five people affected by mental health issues each year, it is essential to celebrate these efforts and encourage others to take meaningful action.”
