SYLVIA Flynn hosted her Lady Captain’s Day at Crossgar Golf Club on a blisteringly hot Saturday.
Rosie Boulter, in form to match the weather, roared to overall victory with 40 points, narrowly defeating Barbara Wootton, the Category A winner, on a count back.
Joyce Dodd secured second place in Category A with 32 points and the Category B prizes went to Siobhan Tweedie and Jane Baker after both returned 37 points, Siobhan winning on a count back.
Joan Dickson won the front nine with Elizabeth Patterson getting the back nine prize.
Lorna Stevenson demonstrated both power and accuracy to win the longest drive prize, with the nearest the pin prizes going to Marian Agnew and Siobhan Tweedie.
The past lady captains’ prize went to Catherine Milhench and Samantha Coulter won the ladies’ committee prize.
In the men’s competition, John McCarthy set the early pace with 42 points, but unfortunately was pushed into third place by one point.
Maurice McClean, with a very impressive 43 points, was narrowly defeated on count back by John Lyons, who laid claim to first place.
A three-week break from golf did not affect David Watson’s playing ability as he claimed the best gross prize by a six-shot cushion. Gerry Savage returned the best front nine score and Sid Stevenson continued his impressive form with the best back nine.
The club captain, Derek Coulter, managed to retain bragging rights with the longest drive and the four nearest the pin prizes were won by Jimmy Keenan, David Watson, Matthew Woods and John McCarthy.
The twos’ pot was shared between Matthew Woods, Martin Coyle and Marian Agnew.
Additionally, the lady captain hosted a guests’ day on Friday. Samantha Coulter topped the field with a very impressive 45 points. Paddy Bell was the leading man with 42 points.
On the front nine the Pattersons, Ian and Elizabeth, made it a family affair by returning the best scores, with Barbara Giffin and John Carson collecting the back nine prizes.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Samantha Coulter, Ernie Kenmore and Paddy Bell and
the twos’ pot was shared between Samantha Coulter, Ian Patterson and Elizabeth Patterson.
