Poster appeal as Saranya gets shield

NEWCASTLE Lions Club are preparing for this year’s International Peace Poster competition.

For over three decades, Lions clubs around the world have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools.

Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and to inspire the world through art and creativity.

In last year’s contest, Saranya Nagineni from Assumption Grammar School in Ballynahinch won the Ireland District contest and represented Ireland at international level.

Lions Peace Poster co-ordinator Marion McGreevy visited Assumption Grammar last week and presented Saranya with a shield which she can keep for one year and her school with a cup. She was accompanied by Ballynahinch Lions Club secretary John Murphy and fellow Ballynahinch Lion Kevin Poland.

The theme of this year’s competition is ‘Peace without Limits’. Students aged 11, 12 and 13 are eligible to apply.
