OWENBEG continues to make their presence felt within the Northern Ireland Private Greens League.
Having not competed in outdoor league bowling for a significant number of years, they rejoined the NIPGL Midweek Division 2 last season and confirmed their progress this year by finishing a close third in the table.
Having also entered a team in the ‘Saturday’ league, Owenbeg won promotion from Division 4 by finishing a close second to Albert Foundry after securing a 7-0 win over Saintfield at home at the weekend.
Owenbeg players again came to the fore in the recent open triples tournament, which was played out over two weeks during August.
Liam Mitchell, Mark Taggart and Paul Magill were victorious in the tournament, overcoming runners-up Peter Kelly, Marc Crothers and Brian Denvir.
Meanwhile, the competition on President’s Day was won by Mark Taggart, who defeated Kieran McMullan in the final.
Now that the outdoor season is complete, it is a welcome return to short mat indoor bowls with the Quoile Invitional League commencing on September 30.
The competing teams this year are: Comber, Owenbeg, Downshire, Owenbeg, Ballycruttle, Ballygowan, Killinchy, Inverbrena, St Macartan’s Crossgar and Drumaroad.
All clubs are open to new members so if you are interested in taking part, contact your local club where you will be made welcome.
