NEWCASTLE’S impressive new bowling club pavilion has been officially opened.
The new facility was opened during a special ceremony last Friday by Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairman Charlie Casey who was joined by a number of local authority officials, councillors and representatives from several bowling clubs in the area.
The creation of the ultra-modern pavilion was identified as an urgent priority in the local council’s sports facility strategy and was fully funded by the organisation with the work carried out by Maghera Developments.
Located in the Castle Park area of Newcastle, the new pavilion, which is a welcome boost for home and visiting bowlers, boasts stunning views of the Mournes and will provide perfect hub for bowling in the area.
Cllr Casey said the new pavilion also provides an opportunity to raise the profile of bowling in the district.
He continued: “The new pavilion aims to raise the levels of health and well-being of all our citizens both in this district and further afield.
“As a council, we have been determined to improve the health and wellbeing of all our citizens and, to that end, are working to provide modern, attractive and fit-for-purpose facilities.”
Describing the new bowling club facility as “fantastic”, the council chairman said it illustrates how the local authority’s sports strategy works for local sport.
Cllr Casey added: “The strategy also reinforces our commitment to delivering quality facilities for our communities. Hopefully, this will encourage new participants to take up bowling and be active”.
