Newcastle Lions Club appeal for spectacles

Newcastle Lions Club appeal for spectacles

29 November 2023

NEWCASTLE Lions Club appeal to collect used spectacles is continuing to be a great success.

At the end of  November club members will travel to  Belfast to collect spectacles donated by members of the public from the four recycling centres run by Belfast City Council.

The Lions visit the centres four times each year. They visit Newcastle Library, the GP surgery and two opticians in Newcastle namely McGloins and Specs-Express, to collect spectacles.

In October at the meeting of the Lions Maeve Bogle donated a bin on behalf of WWT at Castle Espie and her golf club. Lions president Liz Murphy and vice-president Jeanine Knight accepted the donation.

These glasses are sorted and then sent to Lions Medico France where they are refurbished and graded before being dispatched to Africa, Asia and South America through the network of Lions clubs.
