NI Water’s education team visited St Malachy’s Primary School, Kilcoo, recently to provide tips to pupils about how they can reduce plastic pollution.
Some of the tips included refilling a reusable water bottler from the tap, with NI Water providing each student a with a reusable bottle to encourage this.
The aim is to reduce the amount of single use plastic water bottles that could potentially end up polluting our seas.
Pupils also learnt about the value of water, the different forms it takes and what impact humans have on it through H2O and the Wonderful World of Water programme.
They also studied how rainwater is cleaned and sewage is treated, keeping the country healthy and how we can all help by knowing what items can and can’t be put down the toilet as part of the ‘Bag it and Bin it’ campaign.
The programme is aimed at key stage two and is designed to complement a key element of the Northern Ireland primary schools ‘World Around Us’ curriculum project.
