THERE was a great turnout from Murlough AC for the first of the Born 2Run Forest Series at Minnowburn on Saturday morning.
With a choice of entering the 10K or 5k races, this is always a popular, but tough event.
The course includes a lap of the Mary Peters Track at both the start and finish plus a run along the Lagan towpath and through parkland.
Martin Hyland had never run this race before, but made light work of the hills and slippery leaves to finish the 10K in just over 45 minutes, followed by the first MAC lady, Paula early, a few minutes later.
In the 5K race, Seamus Boyd and Anne McCormick, both returning to competitive running after illness and injury, led the Murlough squad over the finish line, with Seamus achieving a top-20 placing in a field of over 200.
With the race over, there was time to get the traditional photo taken with ‘Mary Peters’.
A special mention goes to Carol McMenamin, who was deservedly recognised for her contribution to running over the years.
Carol was awarded ‘Running Legend of the Year’ at the inaugural People’s Running Awards at the weekend.
A founding member of MAC, Carol has taken part in all of the major marathons worldwide and is well-known as part of the Born2Run team.
