MURLOUGH AC’s annual awards night was very different this year.
Prize winners were presented with their awards on Saturday at a less formal and socially distanced outdoors event.
It was a great way for them to celebrate the running achievements of everyone from 2019/2020 before lockdown occurred.
The award winners have shown commitment to their running and to the club in the respective categories. The awards went to some truly deserving recipients. The award winners were as follows:
Best female newcomer: Gwyneth Rogan.
Best male newcomer: Cathal Rooney.
Most improved female: Shauna Trainor.
Most improved male: Marty Rawlinson and Kevin Murray.
Best female off-road runner: Gillian Ryans Stevens.
Best male off-road runner: Gary Cull.
Stephen Smyth Award for the most inspirational runner: Teresa McAuley-Armstrong.
Club person of the year (voted for by members of the club): Laura Brennan.
A special thank you goes to Norah Walsh and Brendan Laverty, committee members who organised the event with such attention to detail, although this year’s awards were very different.
In fact, their special comedy prizes are always a great laugh and these were great entertainment. Winners of these were Michael Neeson, Michelle Hickland, Donna Baker, Jay Walsh, James Ashdown, Gerard and Jane Rowe, Tony Nellis, Ursula Smyth and James Ashdown.
The Murlough AC committee hope to organise a bigger celebration in the future to acknowledge the prize-winners again with entertainment and dinner as in previous years.
A huge congratulations to all of the prize-winners, who are all very deserving of their awards.
