A MUNITIONS shell which may date from World War 2 was found on Tyrella beach at the weekend.
The head of a tank shell was found close to the Coastguard cottages on Sunday.
Members of Newcastle Coastguard, who were called to the scene, alerted bomb disposal officers, who examined the object which they confirmed as being a tank shell head/ tracer round.
The object was removed and the Coastguard team was later stood down.
