THE Mourne Mountain Rescue Team was involved in three call-outs on Friday.
Shortly after 1pm the team received a request from police to assist a walker who had sustained a leg injury whilst en route to Slieve Doan.
The walker, who was part of a family group, asked for the assistance of other walkers to call 999 for Mountain Rescue. While that was being done, further walkers attempted to assist the casualty to move towards track/road access.
The team arrived shortly after 2pm only to discover that the casualty had moved. The team carried out a number of checks and it was confirmed that the car of the casualty had left the area.
A spokesperson said: “It’s great when casualties can self-help but if you do ever call for help and subsequently don’t need it, please do let us know.”
The team received a further request for assistance at around 5.30pm after another person sustained a leg injury while walking to the Miners Hole.
The walker managed to reach the Banns Road track, but was unable to continue.
The team provided initial treatment at the site before the casualty was transferred to hospital.
While the call was underway, the team were asked to go to the assistance of a walker with potential heat exhaustion.
