Local students are top of the class

STUDENTS at  Lecale Trinity Grammar School are enjoying plenty of success. 

Sporting achievements has been complemented by a variety of accolades across the curriculum.

Mrs Celeste McEvoy, Head of Music, recently accompanied pupils to the Holywood Music Festival, where there was representation across many different categories.

Emma Deegan won a Best Original Song award for two songs, ‘Home’ and ‘Something Comfortable’.

The judge, Mairéad Forde, scored Emma’s songs in the Distinction category and complimented her beautiful arrangements. 

The rock group ‘Smudge’ were named Best Rock Group with their rendition of the Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ and Blur’s ‘Beetlebum’.  Jamie Rice picked up yet another win for his performance on the whistle, while Cian Maginn was outstanding on the harp, picking up silver. 

Eoin Fitzsimons won the gold medal performance on the drum kit, performing ‘Rope’ by the Foo Fighters and ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ by 

Joe Cocker. Eoin received praise and helpful insights from judge David Beer.

In art, Ross Burns was third place in the University of Ulster's recent schools outreach programme competition. Students were asked to design a badge to commemorate 175 years of the art college.

Lecale Trinity Grammar School AS geography students conducted their fieldwork at Murlough. The aim of their study was to investigate plant succession on the dunes. Afterwards, they headed back to the school science laboratory to do further tests and analyse results.

The local community continues to support local schools.  Lecale Trinity was delighted to welcome M. B. McGrady & Co Chartered Accountants who will be sponsoring senior teams this year.  

Elsewhere Lecale Trinity student Ben O’Connor, creator of giftware company Giftery, was recently named Entrepreneur of the Year at the prestigious Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards. 

Fundraising and charity also continue at Lecale Trinity Grammar School with a recent bake sale in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  In what was a fun event, the student senior leadership team organised sales on both Lecale campuses, much to the delight of the pupils.
