TWO local family businesses have hit the big time with supermarket giants Lidl.

Lecale Harvest and Strangford Coffee Roastery have been selected to join Lidl Kickstart Programme.

Their products will now be available in Lidl supermarkets throughout Ireland.

Lecale Harvest is a food company located at Down Business Centre, located just outside Downpatrick.

It has a range of 25 artisan produces which include patés, slow cooked meats and French influenced high quality ready meals.

Lidl customer can now enjoy their tomato tapenade and award-winning confit duck and pork belly.

The ethos of Lecale Harvest is to source the best local ingredients from local producers.

Currently they supply wholesalers, farm shops ad specialist food shops across the UK and Ireland.

Their confit duck product recently won a Great Taste Award and being selected by the kickstart programme give them an opportunity to expand their company.

Similarly, Strangford Coffee Roastery prides itself on sourcing only the best ingredients.

Established in 2021, and located in the heart of Strangford Village, the business was founded by Bob McGouran and his wife, Valerie, who have a true passion for coffee.

Helped by their children, Lily and Cole, what started off as the family selling coffee at their garden gate soon blossomed into a full-time coffee roasting business.

Bob and Valerie source their grade beans through direct trade with small coffee farms to ensure freshness, quality and fair prices for the farmers.

Due to the success of their products, the family decided to roast and sell coffee at their garden gate, located at the ferry slip in Strangford which they called the Coffee Port.

Strangford Coffee Roastery now supplies 18 shops in Co Down and Belfast.

Bob said: “Every year something exciting has happened, this year in particular as we have been selected to be part of the Lidl Kickstart Programme.”
