Leitrim mother Tamara offering expert advice for expectant mums looking for support

5 November 2025

A MOTHER-of-three from Leitrim has set up a new birth education and support business for expectant parents across Northern Ireland.

Tamara Doyle (30) is the founder of Born Informed, which will offer group birth preparation courses, ongoing support for all types of feeding, and free educational content on social media with evidence-based information, tips and mindset tools.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge to the business, Tamara is a trained doula, accredited by Doulas UK. Doulas offer guidance and support to expectant families during pregnancy, labour and after the birth of a baby.

She is also a breastfeeding advocate and peer supporter with the South Eastern Trust and has been trained in hypnobirthing – a method of pain management that can be used during labour and birth.

“I feel there’s a real lack of support for mums in the postpartum period, and I hope that helping parents make informed choices can be part of the solution by bringing more awareness and support to this stage,” Tamara explained.

“My goal is to empower women to trust themselves, get excited for birth, and feel genuinely involved in their care, whatever direction their birth takes. I’ll also be collaborating with local businesses and sharing free resources to build a positive, informed birth community here in Northern Ireland,” she said.

Tamara, who is mum to Dessie (four), Farrah (two) and 12-week-old Margot, also has her own experiences of pregnancy and birth to draw from.

“I’ve experienced different feeding journeys, being treated in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and loss myself, so I bring a lot of lived experience and empathy into my work,” she explained.

“Dessie was born in 2021 during Covid, so there was no face-to-face support. I wanted to breastfeed and pumped exclusively for 13 months, I had to work it all out myself,” she recalled.

“With my second baby, Farrah, I had a much better time, but I was so anxious after my first pregnancy experience.

“I then had a molar pregnancy – which is very rare – and I had a miscarriage.”

A molar pregnancy is when there is a problem with a fertilised egg, which means a baby and a placenta do not develop the way they should after conception.

“I’ve been working on my confidence for the past two years. I now have that with my 12-week-old Margot.”

Tamara said when it comes to pregnancy and birth it’s not a ‘one size fits all’.

“It’s all about making informed decisions. There are choices you can make which are better for you,” she said.

“I often hear people say, ‘I wish I had known that before’. People don’t realise they can say no to certain things – Women need to trust their own bodies.

“Don’t be so hard on yourself and never be afraid to reach out,” she added.

Tamara, who is currently on maternity leave, is now welcoming 1-to-1 clients and hopes to launch group courses in the new year.
