Late night bus service

Late night bus service

22 June 2022

A DECISION by Translink to provide a new late night bus service between Belfast and  Ballygowan has been welcomed by Strangford MLA Michelle McIlveen.

She said the improving late bus services in the constituency has been a priority for her for quite some time, arguing that current provision of public transport in many parts of Strangford doesn’t reflect its population.

In particular, Ms McIlveen said constituents in Crossnacreevy, Moneyreagh and Ballygowan have often expressed frustration at the lack of bus services from Belfast.

“Since the pandemic began over two years ago, residents along the A23 route to Ballygowan have been without any bus service home from Belfast after 8pm which, I believe, is unfair for the growing number of night time economy workers,” she said.

“Translink has confirmed that the 512 service will depart from Belfast for Ballygowan at 10:50pm from Monday to Saturday, beginning on July 1.”

Ms McIlveen said the company has also confirmed that an additional 511 bus from Belfast to Killyleagh at 6.15pm, which she secured at the beginning of the year, has also been scheduled into the new timetable commencing next week.
