Landscape photography exhibition

Landscape photography exhibition

31 May 2023

AN exhibition featuring the work of local photographer Alan Thomson has opened at Down Arts Centre.

‘Footnotes’ is collection of landscape photographs taken by Alan over the last three years.

“I make my own ultra large format cameras, and these images are either printed directly from the negatives, or are the actual negatives, chemically reversed into positive images,” he explained. “They range from 11”x 12” to 20”x24”.

“These are long exposure images of up to four minutes. Hopefully they reflect the calm, contemplative nature of both this photographic process and the quiet places found all over Co Down.”

Alan added: My cameras and equipment are heavy to manoeuvre and there is a very physical experience in making these works, involving some lengthy walks.

“The collected photographs in the exhibition form a visual diary of the last three years for me, hence the title, ‘Footnotes’.”

The exhibition is available for viewing until June 17. Admission is free.
