LOUGHINISLAND......2 (34)
KILMEGAN................6 (37)
KILMEGAN got back to winning ways after the Christmas break with this hard-earned win at Loughinisland.
The home side put up a good battle to take the match to the final couple of ends.
On mat one the game between Sean Toman and Kevin Cassidy ended in a low scoring 5-5 draw, while on mat two C J McLaughlin won four ends as he led his rink to a 10-3 win over Brendan Corrigan.
On the next run the home McLaughlin rink were held to a 5-5 draw by Noreen Magorrian, who was losing 5-1 playing the last end but lifted four shots for the draw.
On the other mat the rink skipped by Kevin Cassidy secured the first away point of the match with a close 6-5 win over Michael McAnulty.
Going into the final run of games the home side held a seven-shot overall lead but they just couldn’t hold on as the Corrigan four reduced the deficit with a three-shot win against the McAnulty rink ( 9-6 ) before the Magorrian rink turned on the style as they had a 9-3 win over the Toman four which was worth three points as it also secured the overall shots total.
BALLYCRUTTLE........5 (36)
DROMARA.................3 (34)
ON one of the coldest nights of the year so far, Dromara made the brave journey to face Ballycruttle.
What a match it turned out to be with only two shots separating the sides at the end.
On mat one Manzie Cullen and his rink fought back in the second half of their game against Richard Kelly and with the help of counts of three and two on the last ends secured a 7-5 victory.
On mat two the away rink skipped by Niall McGreevy scored two counts of three midway through the game and just held on for a close 8-7 win over Sean Magee.
The game on the other mat was a low scoring one with Michael McGreevy just coming out on top 6-3 against Peter Craig, which sent visitors into the break with a two-shot advantage.
The home team came out strongly in the second half with the Craig rink winning 7-3 against Niall McGreevy and Manzie Cullen’s rink continued where they left off earlier with a close 8-7 win over Michael McGreevy.
With very little in the overall scores, the game on the third mat became a three-pointer and even though Dromara’s Richard Kelly won 5-4 against Sean Magee 5-4, it was enough for Ballycruttle to win overall.
BRIGHT.......................6 (43)
DUNSFORD.................2 (29)
ANOTHER solid performance from the Bright players keeps them firmly in the running for a return to the top division.
The first run of games saw Niall Polley have a comfortable 10-2 win over Liam Cahir, but the away side hit back with a keenly fought win of 5-4 for C Cahill over Lorna Stevenson.
The Stevenson four had a much handier time on the next run as they had an 8-4 win against G Henvey and this was backed up by Hugh Porter leading his players to a 9-4 win over Liam Cahir.
The final run of games were once again shared with Hugh Porter doubling up with an 8-6 win against C Cahill but the match was finished off with a good away win of 8-4 for the Henvey rink against the normally reliable Polley four.
While Bright are pushing for promotion, Dunsford can be proud of the way they are playing. With every match they are getting closer to their first league win of the season.
These were the only matches played last week as all matches in Division 1 were either postponed because of the weather or the National Championships being played.
