IT was a case of trebles all round recently for a highly-talented teenager from Kilmore.
Eighteen year-old Conor Mullan, a son of well-known Crossgar garage owner James Mullan, was in seventh heaven after adding the Ulster
motocross semi-expert title to the Irish and Ulster Youth crowns won earlier in the the year.
Conor blazed his way to victory in all three competitions and crowned a sensational year at Desertmartin last week when he clinched the Ulster title, despite riding with a few niggling injuries, including a troublesome shoulder.
To clinch Ulster and Irish titles in the same year is some achievement and Conor has done it in style.
The Year 14 pupil at St Patrick’s Grammar School, Downpatrick, now has his focus on sitting his A-Levels next year “I am in Upper Sixth at the minute, taking A-Levels in geography, technology and business studies,” he said.
“Next year the plan is to go to university, where I’d like to study business, or economics. I would like to go to Queen’s or Jordanstown, as I am a bit of a home bird.
“I haven’t thought too far ahead at the minute, but education is certainly the priority and then I can concentrate on racing,” he added.
While Conor concentrates on his studies he also has his future sorted out in motocross.
“I would also like to be based at home for racing, but also take on new challenges racing in England,” he enthused.
“Next year I will be moving up into the experts class and I would like to be in the top five finishing places. In England I would like to take part in the MX Nationals again, where I will be aiming for a few podium finishes, as I came close to it last year. So, maybe this year with a bit of hard work I can take another step up,” he continued.
Looking a little bit further ahead, Conor has his sights set on taking part in some big events.
“Towards the end of next year I would like to have a go racing in the full Maxis British Championship and I would like to thank Roger Magee and the Hitachi KTM UK Racing Team for all of the support that they have given me so far in my career,” he added.
“I would also like to thank BLRC, McGrady Insurance, Quinns, Cosy Roof, Mauds, Shortcross Gin & Function Design for their kind sponsorship.”
