Flooding scheme work begins

31 March 2021

WORKS have commenced to solve a draining issue and persistent flooding in Teconnaught.

Sinn Féin councillor Cathy Mason, alerted the authorities after numerous complaints from locals, who expressed worry over the condition of the road.

Cllr Mason, who described the road as “treacherous” at times, said: “This has been an ongoing issue for many years. Even during relatively light rainfalls the road can become impassable.

“Both residents and road users have been in touch with me regarding the persistent problem of flooding.

“In recent weeks I have been in contact with the Department for Infrastructure and Rivers Agency to request they assess this road and upon investigation they discovered there was an issue with drainage to a nearby river.”

“Thankfully work has commenced to solve the problem, which should ensure the road is fit for purpose.”

“I would like to thank the roads officials for acting swiftly and have urged them to take the same approach on other rural roads in the area which are suffering badly with infrastructure issues.”
