MURLOUGH AC juniors lined up for the last run in the McGrady Financial Services Junior Cross Country Series on Sunday.

Ten Murlough juniors arrived at Tollymore, dressed in MAC colours, mixed with excitement and nerves and they couldn’t have asked for a better day with the sun shining on them.

In the P4 and under boys’ race, Jamie McMullan came in fourth, displaying a fantastic effort as there were 11 participants. Likewise in the P4 and under girls’ race, Sophie Boyd ran strong to come in fourth place also.

Although the P5 boys race only had four boys running, Fionn O’Rouke was consistently strong and finished in a fantastic second place. The P5 girls race had ten contenders and Ayla Boyd finished in a superb fourth place.

The P6 boys race had two MAC participants, who both ran a great race, with Ryan Thornton coming in first and Ronan McMullan in fifth.

The P6 girls race also had two MAC participants, adding up to the ten contenders. Emma O’Rouke and Lucy Ward both ran a superb race finishing in fourth and sixth place, respectively.

The P7 boys race was Paddy Sherrard’s first in his MAC vest. He ran a fantastic race leading the way up to the last few metres before being pipped to the post by Newcastle AC but got a fantastic second place podium post.

Also in the P7 girls race, Maisie McVeigh secured a first place podium spot, running a strong race from start to finish.

In true MAC fashion, the juniors ran alongside each other, supporting each other and cheering them on in every race. Parents should be very proud as the club most definitely are.
