Female choir in tune with donation to Action Cancer

IN 2016 recently-retired teacher Carolyn Ross formed a women’s choir which she called Harmonic Progression.

The ladies rehearsed in Seaforde Young Farmers’ Hall each Thursday evening and played to a packed hall at their winter and spring concerts.

The proceeds of these concerts were presented to a number of charities such as Air Ambulance, Mourne Mountain Rescue and Cure Parkinsons.

Almost £10,000 was donated to these charities during the choir’s existence.

Over the years, many firm friendships were established between the choir members. Unfortunately, the choir became one of the many casualties of the Covid pandemic and latterly, as the result of ill health, Carolyn had to make the painful decision to dissolve the choir.

The choir committee decided to give their keyboard to St Macartan’s Primary School in Loughinisland and their speaker system, including their sub-woofer which was affectionately known as ‘Big Bertha’, to Loughinisland Parish Church.

It was decided that the remaining funds, which were left in the choir’s account, along with donations made by the school and church should be donated to Action Cancer. This amounted to £918.

All in all, the choir provided a vehicle for fun and friendship for local women, as well as donating £10,162 to good causes. It will be very much missed by the local community.
