End of season awards night

End of season awards night

18 June 2025

DOWNPATRICK Football Club held its annual dinner dance in Murphy’s Bar, Downpatrick, to celebrate the season and present individual awards.

In what was a whirlwind season for both senior teams, there have been some fantastic moments and some heartbreaking defeats, but the development throughout the year has been remarkable.

Our firsts made it to two cup finals and sadly missed out to a very good Ardglass team, who went on to win the treble.

The seconds had a very impressive season, missing out on league and cup double to Rossglass in the final week of the season.

The club would like to thank our senior team coaches, Kevin Trueman, Mark Holland, Johnny Holland, Padraig McAteer, Patrick McCarthy, Mark Murphy and Barry McDowell, for all their hard work and dedication.

This year, the club introduced the Dylan Kelly Memorial top goalscorer award in memory of our dear friend and teammate, who sadly passed away last year.

Dylan’s memory will live on for many years to come and those who win this prestigious award will see Dylan as the first named winner.

We were honoured to have Dylan’s family, Barry, Anna, Chloe and Georgia, in attendance to present this award on the night.

Although the club did not win the major prizes, it has been a very successful year, with the club providing football for almost 250 children, aged 5-18.

This season saw the introduction of two girls’ teams in the Downpatrick Youth League’s girls-only league and it was a fantastic season for all involved.

A major success for the club was seeing so many youth players lining out for the senior teams, with no less than eight players playing their part in both senior panels — the future looks bright.

Building on that success, Downpatrick are hoping to have three senior teams for the upcoming league campaign and a move to St Dillon’s Park will finally see the club have a place to call home.

The club would also like to express their sincere thanks to all the local businesses who sponsored new kits and match balls throughout the year.
