A BALLYGOWAN girl is in the running to be crowned Miss Northern Ireland.

Emma Young (22) — who works as a banking lab manager — was recently chosen to compete for the coveted title at Belfast’s Europa Hotel on May 6.

The Ballygowan girl was selected for the Miss NI finals at an event in Armagh when Laoise Toner from Newry also made it through to the Europa.

Girls from across the country competed for a place at the Miss NI final in front of a judging panel at Groucho’s which included current Miss Northern Ireland Katharine Walker, Lauren Moore form ACA Models, Current Mr Northern Ireland Adam Steenson, Kirsty Farrell of Rosie’s Closet and Mervyn Steenson from Groucho’s.

Emma, who was crowned Miss Groucho, qualified for the Miss NI final and is looking forward to May.

Competition organiser, Alison Clarke, added: “We were thrilled to be at Groucho’s. It was the perfect venue to continue the search this year and a brilliant night was had by all. Huge congratulations to the winning girls.”

Katharine Walker congratulated Emma and Laoise on their success and said her year as Miss Northern Ireland “had been a dream come true” and something she will treasure forever.

The Miss NI competition is still open to entrants with heats taking place across the country.
