Dundrum cruise past Drumaness

24 July 2019

DUNDRUM made it seven league wins in a row with a 100 run victory over local rivals Drumaness.

They travelled to Drumaness on Sunday looking to maintain their lead at the top of Section 3.

Drumaness won the toss and elected to bowl. The game was reduced to 30 overs with rain forecast later in the day.

Dundrum opened the batting with Terry Hutley and Sean Cameron, but got off to a bad start when Cameron was bowled by Darren Oldroyd in the first over.

Dundrum rebuilt the innings through Hutley and Scott Symington, who put on 40 for the next wicket.

Hutley was dominating the scoring and two straight sixes. Symington was dismissed in the eighth over off the bowling of James Cunningham with the score on 45 for 2.

Hutley was joined by Stuart Campbell and the pair put on 80 runs for the next wicket with some aggressive strokes and running between the wickets.

At the 20 over mark they had taken the score to 130 for 2 before both were dismissed in quick succession with Hutley scoring 57 (six boundaries) and Campbell for an aggressive 55 (nine boundaries).

This allowed the remaining batsman to be aggressive and help post a big total. Neil Reilly played a wonderful innings of 41 (six boundaries) to put the pressure on the Drumaness bowlers.

He was supported by Greg Hutley (11), James Martin (12) and Ian Wright (15). Dundrum eventually finished on 216 off their 30 overs. The pick of the Drumaness bowlers was James Cunningham (1-23 off six overs) and Gary Walsh (2-37 off six overs).

Dundrum knew they need to bowl well on a small ground and with rain coming knew the pressure was on.

They opened the bowling with Stuart Campbell and James Martin and reduced Drumaness to 30 for 4 off the first 10 overs through accurate bowling and good fielding.

Campbell finished with 2-9 and Martin finished with 2-19 in their four over spells. Drumaness formed a 70 run partnership through Neil Walsh and Paul Fenton, who played aggressive shots to take it back to Dundrum.

Peter Calvert and Ian Wright bowled well in the middle overs to restrict Drumaness and ensure they never got ahead.

Walsh and Fenton brought up the 100 runs for Drumaness in the 18th over and Wright eventually dismissed Walsh for a well-made 55.

This led to a collapse with the remaining six wickets falling for less than 20 runs.

Wright (3-12) and Symington (2-12) finished up to bowl Drumaness out for 116 and complete the 100 run win for Dundrum.

It was a fantastic all-round team performance for Dundrum.

This win made it seven in a row for Dundrum in the league this year as they continue their pursuit for promotion. They will hope to continue this form next weekend with games against Victoria away and Donaghadee at home.
