THE vital life-saving work of the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund has been given a significant boost with a donation from the Dromara Vintage and Vehicle Club.
Mr Brian McGrillen, the club’s president, recently presented a cheque for £1,100 to representatives of the charity at Belfast City Hospital.
The Fund’s Research Operations Manager, Susan McKee, thanked the club for their “fantastic contribution” and emphasised that every penny raised in Northern Ireland remained here to support the next generation of clinicians and scientists.
“We are extremely grateful to the Dromara Vintage and Classic Club and everyone who contributed to this fantastic contribution,” she said.
“Their ongoing support helps us continue the vital kidney research and improve the lives of patients and families across Northern Ireland.”
Mr McGrillen explained how his club members had planned a major road run in aid of the Fund last summer, but disappointingly it had to be cancelled at virtually the last moment because of the dreadful weather conditions.
However, local Dromara lady Mrs Mary McCann organised a charity whist drive and the vintage club had some funds in reserve, which were combined to make this latest donation.
“I would like to thank everyone involved with this contribution to the Kidney Research Fund, including all those who had volunteered to help on the day of the road run,” Mr McGrillen added.
