DOWNSHIRE Hospital Bridge Club members held their end of season presentations last Thursday evening.
They were pleased to welcome Roisin Coulter, chief executive of the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.
The club was formed by Downshire Hospital staff almost 50 years ago and meets every week from September to May.
The members were also delighted to welcome Mrs Kathleen Fitzgerald and her daughters, Carmel and Maire, to present the Gerry Fitzgerald Plate, a trophy purchased in memory of Mrs Fitzgerald’s late husband, who was the club’s founder and mentor until his death in 2021.
The inaugural winners of the trophy were Vivienne Linter and Hilda Perceval-Price. Other trophy winners were Betty Sloan (St Patrick’s Bowl) and Mandy Degan and Helen Priestly (Rita Quinn Trophy).
As well as the presentation of trophies, the club presented a cheque for £600 to Angela Orr and her daughter, Claire, from Dramability Downpatrick, which was the chosen charity this year.
Club members are pleased to be back playing bridge after all the problems associated with Covid-19 and look forward to celebrating the club’s 50th anniversary next year.
New members are always welcome. To find out more, visit the club’s website.
