A NEW temporary banking hub is scheduled to open in Ballynahinch today.
The Cash Access UK facility will be based at The Edge Youth Club adjacent to the Windmill Street care park with the opening welcomed by Strangford MLS Nick Mathison and Rowallane councillors Tierna Howie and David Lee-Surginor.
The hub will operate from a temporary hub until a permanent location can be found.
Mr Mathison said Alliance initially requested a banking hub through a community submission and was thrilled when the request was approved at the end of last year.
“Access to banking services and free cash withdrawals is a major need in Ballynahinch, and I am very pleased to see this moving forward,” he added.
Cllr Tierna said the temporary hub will offer all the same services as a permanent facility, including over-the-counter transactions for both personal and business accounts for customers of all major banks.
“For those with specific banking enquiries, a community banker will be available on a weekly rota,” she revealed, encouraging residents in Ballynahinch and the surrounding areas to make use of the new service.
Cllr Lee-Surginor described the banking hub as a “much-needed addition to Ballynahinch” particularly given the decline in high street banking services.
He added: “Many local people, especially older residents and small business owners, have struggled with access to in-person banking, so this hub will provide real practical support. I encourage as many people as possible to use the service to ensure its long-term success.”
