A DJ emotionally dedicated an award to the late Newcastle man and U105 presenter Paul McKenna at last week’s Northern Ireland Wedding Awards.
Mr McKenna died in the Northern Ireland Hospice on March 16 from cancer.
The 46 year-old was known and respected throughout the entertainment business in Northern Ireland, particularly as an award-winning wedding DJ.
Since 2018, he took over the late night music programme on U105, becoming one of the station’s most loved presenters.
Paul had been nominated for Wedding DJ of the Year. The award was won by Stephen Greene from Banbridge, who paid tribute to his long-time friend and dedicated the award to Paul’s wife, Emma.
Stephen, also known as ‘DJ Greener’, invited Emma to come on to the stage to accept the award.
He added: “I want to say well done to my mate, one of the legends on the circuit. I thought it would be nice for his wife Emma and Philip, his roadie, that all his hard work was honoured on this way.”
Mrs McKenna told the Belfast Telegraph that having the award dedicated to her late husband “was her proudest moment”.
She added: “He’s passed away not even two weeks and this is so lovely he’s thought of so well.
“He was the love of my life, we were soul mates. He was incredibly special to me and it’s touching to see how special he was to others as well.”
