Councillor urges DfI to examine school footpaths

24 July 2024

A MOURNES councillor has urged DfI Roads to examine a footpath close to two Newcastle schools.

The SDLP’s Laura Devlin said that the footpath from South Promenade towards Shimna Integrated College and All Children’s Integrated Primary School has became badly overgrown.

Cllr Devlin says she has been contacted by concerned pupils and their parents.

“Parents have been forced to walk and push their prams out onto the road, as the bushes are so badly encroaching the pavement.”

She added: “It is important that pedestrians have the full width of the pavement and are not forced on to the roadway.”
