Concern over resurfacing road needs in Bryansford

29 November 2023

ROADS officials have been urged to press ahead with a resurfacing scheme in Bryansford.

The appeal has been issued by South Down MP Chris Hazzard who said that in addition to resurfacing the main road in the village, the work needs to include the Hilltown Road which is increasingly degrading.

He confirmed has spoken with residents whose cars have been damaged as a result of dangerous potholes and said the need for resurfacing is clear.

“With ongoing work by NI Water, only a utility trench is being resurfaced but this does not go anywhere near enough as far as the resurfacing works required,” the MP continued.

“With cars swerving to avoid potholes and a growing number of drivers claiming for damage caused to their vehicles, action must be taken to make this road safer.”

Mr Hazzard said he has raised the issue with the Department for Infrastructure highlighting the urgent need for resurfacing works to be carried out as soon as possible.

He added: “The local community has waited far too long for a resurfacing scheme to be given the green light. It’s time for DfI Roads to prioritise Bryansford village and the Hilltown Road.”
