CELEBRITY chef Alex Greene was welcomed to Newcastle Bowling Club last Wednesday for a talk show with BBC radio presenter David O’Reilly.
The show was in aid of the Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge facility and was hosted by Newcastle Lions Club.
The evening was billed as an opportunity to meet some of the stars, through conversation, who Alex had worked with during the production of the BBC2 series B&B by the Sea in which celebrities stay at a bed and breakfast on the North Antrim coast.
Dundrum-born Alex, head chef at the Michelin-starred Deane’s EIPIC in Belfast, cooked for celebrities including Deborah Meaden, from Dragons’ Den, Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, Olympic champion Linford Christie and Gloria Hunniford.
Alex shared tales of how he began his journey as a child working on the family farm and his experience of washing dishes at the Bucks Head in Dundrum.
He moved on to Deane’s in Belfast and travelled to New Zealand and Thailand to seek further experiences in the kitchen before moving to London to work with Gordon Ramsay.
The conversation drew to a close with a question and answer session. At the end of the evening, Marian McGreevy thanked Alex and David for giving up their time.
She also thanked the Newcastle Bowling Club and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for use of the premises.
