Castlewellan Studio Players host nights of comedy sketches

25 January 2023

CASTLEWELLAN Studio Players will be presenting their first ‘immersive theatre experience’ with a run of shows in the ADHD Hub, Newcastle, throughout February and March.

The CSP Immersive Theatre Evening of Comedy is taking place on February 10, 11, 17 and 18 and March 10, 11,  24 and 25.

The shows include premieres of three comedy sketches by Anthony McFadden, with additional input from Castlewellan Studio Players members, will allows audiences to get up close and personal.

As such, there’s every chance that at least one audience member will be invited to become part of the performance and showcase their talents.

Castlewellan Studio Players was established in 2019 after a public meeting in Castlewellan Library.

It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of its members that they were awarded charitable status within three short years.

The organisation is purely voluntary and aims to promote and develop amateur dramatics within the community by bringing local people together regardless of race, creed, colour, sexual orientation or gender identity.

“I am so excited that we are producing something new which engages with the audience on a fresh dynamic platform,” said Michelle Dorans, founder and chairperson of CSP.

“Collaborating with and supporting the hub is at the heart of CSP; reaching into the community to inspire, engage, support and connect.

“Since CSP started, it has been our intention to bring community drama to the heart of the community.

“It has been a pleasure for me to see our members develop in such a creative direction and holistically as individuals.

“We want to make theatre more accessible to everyone and to encourage people to try something new, that’s why we’re putting on several shows in a community setting.

“We also wanted to help raise the profile of the ADHD Hub.

“We know ADHD services across trusts in NI are overstretched, with many people waiting several years for a diagnosis.

“The Hub offers a vital source of support and information for individuals and families affected by ADHD.

“We hope as many people as possible will be able to attend our immersive theatre experience and we always love to hear from prospective new members.

“If you would like to be part of CSP – whether you aspire to be on stage, behind the scenes, or writing new content – you’re extremely welcome and we’re delighted to be able to accept new members at any time.

“We have ambitious plans for this year and beyond, so don’t hesitate as a warm welcome awaits you.”

Janet Ward, from ADHD Hub, said: “I am very much looking forward to these shows.

“I know some of the members and have been along to previous CSP productions and know the team will always bring creativity, energy and humour to their performances.

“I’m honoured to be able to showcase the ADHD hub and the work that we do in the process.”

The shows will begin at 7.30pm sharp with short breaks between sketches and light refreshments available.

Seating is limited to just 16 per night, so make sure you’re quick in securing your seat. Tickets cost £7, or why not treat a friend with CSP’s two for £10 ticket offer?
