CARRYDUFF secured the Patrick Dinsmore Cup for the third year in a row at Pairc Esler on Sunday afternoon.
An intriguing decider was played in a sporting, but competitive manner with Carryduff’s greater experience helping them over the line — nine of Carryduff’s starting 15 have now played in all three finals.
Mayobridge drew first blood through a point from Shea Byrne, but Carryduff midfielders Josh Connery and Owen McCabe quickly established a foothold in the game and scores from Caolan Cunningham, Rory Anderson and John McGeough had D J Morgan’s charges in the driving seat.
Mayobridge then hit the jackpot and a goal and a point in quick succession had Benny Coulter’s lads 1-2 to 0-3 clear after 10 minutes.
Carryduff then closed up shop at the back and stubbornly refused to give away any more scores for the remainder of the half, while registering six of their own through
Ronan Beatty (0-2), McGeough, McCabe, Anderson and Michael Lawson to go in at the break with a 0-9 to 1-2 lead.
Beatty and Byrne swapped scores at the start of the second half as did Peter Loughran and Shea McConville, before a game Mayobridge offering reduced the arrears with three unanswered points to trail by a single point, 0-11 to 1-7 midway through the second half.
The game was now there for the taking, but Carryduff’s resilience shone through and points from Loughran and Beatty secured a remarkable third title in successive years.
