KILLINCHY’S Brittany Hogan scored her first try in the Six Nations as Ireland got off the mark with a 54-12 victory over Italy in Rome on Sunday.
The 26 year-old has featured in Ulster’s back row since 2017 and made her debut for the national team in 2020, having previously lined out for Ireland in rugby sevens.
Hogan has gone on represent her country 27 times and although she had scored a try before, this is the first she has registered in the Six Nations since debuting in the competition five years ago.
The Ireland team were seeking to bounce back from a 27-15 defeat at home to France in the opening game, and they did so in emphatic style.
Hogan’s score added to tries from teammates Aoife Dalton, Anna McGann (3), Amee-Leigh Costigan, Linda Djougang and Dorothy Wall, as well as Dannah O’Brien’s seven conversions, as her side clinched their first away win in the Six Nations since 2021.
While Hogan did start the match on the bench, she came on to make an instant impact and has provided head coach Scott Bemand with food for thought when it comes to his next team selection.
