THE Brian Steenson Memorial Group held its third annual car and motorcycle cavalcade in Crossgar last Sunday.
The hugely popular event featured a spectacular display of machinery with 175 cars, motorbikes, scooters and trikes taking part, with many big names from Irish Road Racing’s bygone years also present.
One very special visitor was Brian Steenson’s daughter Irene Walker who travelled from England event. In aid of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, the weekend cavalcade raised £1,100 for the charity
In addition to the wonderful array of vehicles, Graham Ritchie displayed photographs and memorabilia of Brian Steenson while Trevor Lindsay brought along the late road racer’s Aermacchi machine which he rode in the 1968/ 969 seasons.
The Ronnie Donnan Memorial Cup was awarded to Norman Johnston from Newtownards for his 1967 350cc Bridgestone. Norman’s machine was judged as the most interesting original road motorcycle on display.
Also on Sunday, the The J.N. Brown Memorial Cup was awarded to Billy Keenan from Millisle for his 1965 350cc Benelli race bike.
The Brian Steenson Memorial Group would like to thank all those who supported the event, especially The Corner Inn, Central Garages and the Scott family.
Thanks are also extended to Roy Neill for his excellent commentary which was very much appreciated and to David McClements who was the event’s official photographer.
Members of the memorial group also wish to thank everyone for their cooperation in complying with the social distancing measures that were in place and have confirmed that the event will take place again on the first Sunday in September next year.
