Brave Kilclief blitzed in final

Brave Kilclief blitzed in final

19 October 2016

DOWN junior champions Kilclief came up against an extremely talented Bridini Oga outfit in the Ulster Junior Club final in Eglish, Co Tyrone, on Sunday, but it was always going to be a tough challenge.

Kilclief opened positively and Grainne Cassidy split the uprights with a good score after five minutes until Bridini Oga cut loose.

The match reminded competitive up to the tenth minute, but by this stage Bridini Oga had scored 1-4. Kilclief had a goal chance when Mary Swail broke free, but she was denied by a last gasp save on the goal line by the Bridini Oga ‘keeper.

A strong midfield battle persisted, but Bridini Oga were slightly edging the match with their strength and pace and they kept the scoreboard ticking over on a regular basis.

Kilclief were showcasing their camogie skills with good ground strokes, hooks and blocks, but a young Antrim side gave absolutely nothing away.

Defensively, KIlclief battled to the bitter end, but they had to play second fiddle to Bridina Oga — a side destined for bigger and better things in Antrim and Ulster.
