Ballynahinch banking hub in post office move

21 May 2025

BALLYNAHINCH Post Office is taking over the running of the town’s new banking hub.

The hub – which opened several weeks ago – is currently based in a temporary home at Windmill Lane in the town, offering services for Ulster, Barclays, Danske and Santander customers.

The new hub opened by Cash Access UK is the latest in the area, with others already operational in Newcastle and Comber.

Customers of all major banks can visit any weekday between 9am and 5pm to carry out regular cash transactions, including withdrawals and deposits, as well as checking balances or paying bills.

Additionally, the banking hub offers a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank in a private space about more complicated issue on the day their bank is in the hub.

The hub is open to Ulster bank customers on Monday, Barclays on Wednesday, Danske on Thursday and Santander on Fridays. No community banker is available on Tuesdays.

Cash Access UK has confirmed it is currently working to secure a long term home for the banking hub in Ballynahinch which will offer the same services.

News that Ballynahinch Post Office has taken over the hub was confirmed last week and the Post Office will continue to run it when the facility moves to a permanent home.

The variety of available services includes personal banking, depositing cash and cheques into your account, withdrawing money and checking your balance.

There is also an opportunity to pay utility bills and top up gas and electricity. Business banking services are also available.

Ballynahinch was recommended for the much-needed facility by banking hub LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, following a community request by local councils.

The market town facility is one of the 11 banking hubs that opened in March across the UK, with the hubs offering a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated banking issues.
